A-Rhythm Absolute, Sunday Mourners (8/10)
Sunday Mourners released their debut(?) album, "A-Rhythm Absolute" on 1/16/26 w Curation Records. I didn't know the band at all before, but Rob had been touting this as the best album of the year thus far, and he got me to go to their show at Nightclub 101. Rob had described them as a mix between the Velvets and Television, and, as always, Rob was right on the nose. Is that Tom Verlaine? Anyways, they were awesome live (which I knew they'd be even before I heard them), and I got to chat w the bassist, Casey, after the show for a while which was great. And man, this album is killer. While some of the songs veer just a little too post-punky for me, most hit right on the sweet spot, and "Darling" is just an absolute tour de force of a song that totally blew me away. Not only does the music capture that NY 70's East Village sound, but their energy live does as well! Hard to believe they are an LA based band... Anyways, I'd recommend this album to anyone but especially if you like either of the aforementioned bands or post-punk in general or just great guitar forward rock n roll. Can't wait to see them get big. Fav tracks: Darling, 11,000 Volts, There's A Garden In You
