LUX, Rosalía (7/10)
Rosalía released "LUX" on 11/7/25 w Columbia Records to almost immediate critical acclaim. A drastic departure from her previous releases, Rosalía's turn to avant garde classical/operatic pop surprised everyone I know. And still, the people loved it. Initially, I wasn't that interested given my limited interest in the genre, but Mimi wrote this fantastic review, which I highly recommend and I decided to give it a shot. I knew I'd have to be in the right mood, so it took me a while to get to it, but I was really impressed and do see everything that Mimi and the other critics talk about. I haven't really heard anything like it; it's fun, refreshing, experimental, grandiose, and executed to near perfection with Rosalía's vocal chops on full display. If there were anything I might compare it to, it'd be old FKA Twigs. Only losing points because it's not an album I've felt like I needed to listen to again really. Definitely some genre bias there.
