Headlights, Alex G (8/10)

Okay sorry for the delay in posting about what was probably my most anticipated album of the year, I've just been trying to wrap my head around what to say about it. Well I'll start by talking about the singles. When "Afterlife" dropped I was like oh shit this record is going to be so good, and that is still probably my single fav song of the summer. I also really enjoyed "Oranges" and "June Guitar," so I was pretty amped for the release. I think I was maybe underwhelmed tho? I guess why I've been ambivalent is that sometimes it takes me a while to really appreciate Alex G's songs. I gave "God Save the Animals" a 6 when it first dropped and then now would probably rank it a 9 and one of my favorites of his LP's. And when I listen to this whole album straight through, I think it's genius, but then simultaneously I haven't really been coming back to the individual songs besides the singles / I've put them all in my playlist and they have generally not been the songs I was obsessed w this month. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so that's kinda my thoughts. I do admire his willingness to experiment w dif sounds still and feel like this album really feels like an adult Alex G wrote it. Giving it an 8 for now, but I'm reserving the right to change it later. Fav tracks: Afterlife, June Guitar, Real Thing
