Welcome to My Blue Sky, Momma (7/10)
Latest Momma album dropped 4/4/25 w Polyvinyl Records. I'd really enjoyed the singles, so I was pretty excited for this LP, and it was generally p good! The sound is bigger than ever before, and there's some bangers for sure. My qualms with their sound have generally had to do with it just being a little too poppy, and I can't tell if I've just listened to the new songs so much and like them regardless, or if their sound has shifted, though I do think it is pretty similar. I've seen critiques that they can feel derivative of 90's bands, and I think that can be a bit unfair; while I don't think they are doing anything super novel, so many bands right now feel inspired by those same bands. Don't love every song here, but there's a few I've had on repeat. Was a bit disappointed with the lyricism actually. "No Bite" from their last album has such killer lyrics, and I felt like the lyrics on this album were a bit more cliché/bland. But whatever. Still stuck in my head. Fav tracks: I Want You (Fever), Bottle Blonde, My Old Street
