EUSEXUA, FKA twigs (7/10)
FKA twigs released her much anticipated "EUSEXUA" on 1/24/25 w Young Recordings. I was super stoked for this release after she released the eponymous single last year. To be honest, though, I was a bit disappointed by the LP - probably because of how high my expectations were from the singles and all the press twigs had given about it. I thought it might be AOTY for me, and while I think it's super great, I don't think it will get that nomination. I've listened to it about 3 or 4 times now, and it's grown on me a lot since my first listen (tinged w disappointment).
My real question is about the North West feature and the place of "Childlike Things" on the album, which a lot of people have been speculating about. TLDR, there are only 2 features on the album and one of them is North West on this very cutesy song where North is singing in Japanese praising God. People r like ??? and I'm also like ??? even tho I actually (🙈) do love this song lol. As a half Japanese person, I am not going to cancel it cuz I'm just like whatever and the song is lowkey a banger, but I do think it feels really out of place on an album about rave culture and the club and next to a song called "Striptease."
Could see this album really growing on me more with more listens and getting bumped to an 8, but for now giving it a 7 partially for ^^ - don't really understand the flow of the narrative/conceit of the whole thing with this somewhat random song (that i can't help but luv booo).
