GNX, Kendrick Lamar (6/10)

Kendrick surprise dropped this album on Fri (11/22/24). Have listened to it about three times through now trying to figure out how I feel. On first listen, I didn't like very much - probs would've given it a 5/10, but Kendrick is someone who's gained my trust, so I kept listening. There's this interesting Tiktok effect where songs go viral on Tiktok and I hear the snippets so much that sometimes I can't tell if I only like a song cuz I've heard it so many times. That happened here for me w "Squabble Up" and "tv off" which have both gone kinda viral at least on my fyp. But regardless of the reason, they've both really grown on me lol. Idk I felt this way w the new Tyler too where we see these rappers over so many years and for me I kinda miss the energy and the anger and the rawness of their early works. As bella said, it's hard to make anything new when you've put out GKMC and TPAB. Anyways, I like but don't love this album I think. Fav tracks: squabble up, hey now (feat. dody6), heart pt. 6

O also there's been a lot of discourse about Kendrick's use of the E word as well as the phrase we are all indigenous which people are calling out as anti-indigenous. So points off for that for sure.
