2468 (Single), Horsegirl (8/10)

On 11/19/24, Horsegirl released their first single since 2022 and announced their sophomore album coming out on 2/14/25. Huge for a huge fan (me). I feel like this single was a shift from their debut, moving from a more rock-y place to a more folky one. This was disappointing for my gf, Bella, who keeps saying 2468 who do we appreciate every time this song comes on. But I think it actually makes a lot of sense as someone who has followed the band and their taste quite closely over the last few years. To me this was their kind of moving away from a Sonic Youth inspired place to a more Vaselines/Beat Happening/Young Marble Giants inspired place. Still in the same sonic world, just different, which I think is super awesome because I feel like the SY inspired place is so trendy rn, and this one isn't. And that's why the 2468 is kinda twee rather than stupid. Horsegirl is always one step ahead. Continuing to be one of my fav bands out there rn.
