Free Energy, Dummy (6/10)

Wow super impressed by this honestly. I knew a couple songs by Dummy and saw them open for Horsegirl a few years ago, but I don't think I'd ever listened to a full album of theirs. Good stuff! The closest thing to a contemporary Stereolab sound maybe besides Peel Dream Magazine that I can think of. Def exceeded my expectations. Don't love every song but there's a few I'll be listening to on the reg for sure. It is hard for me tho to sus out when a band feels derivative of Stereolab (whose sound is so unique) and when a band is just inspired (might have been a 7 if not for this problem). I think this toes the line but still exciting and feels like some new stuff. Fav tracks: Blue Dada, Nullspace, Nine Clean Nails
