Census Designated, Jane Remover (4/10)

This Jane Remover album came out w their sophomore album on 10/20/23 w deadAir to pretty critical acclaim. Pitchfork gave this album a 7.8 calling it a "feverish blend of shoegaze and bedroom pop," so I was pretty excited to listen, even though I didn't really know much about the band otherwise. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! And Pitchfork isn't even the only one I've seen praise this album. But I think it sounds more like bad Brockhampton / pop punk than shoegaze or even bedroom pop. Wanted to like it cuz Jane Remover is a trans women, and some folks compared this to "Preacher's Daughter," but I don't even think it comes close. The album art is really beautiful though, and there are some decent guitar moments. :(
