My Back Was a Bridge For You To Cross, ANOHNI (6/10)
UMMðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ This album fucking wrecked me. Anohni dropped her sixth studio album on 7/6/23 w Secretly Canadian. Hadn't heard of Anohni before this, but Hunter Schafer directed the music video for the lead single, starring a bunch of other young famous trans ppl. It's a devastating album of 10 songs across 41 minutes, long ballads about trans loss, sense of self, and liberation. But while it's pretty mellow/ballady/sometimes jazzy (the producer worked w Amy Winehouse), it also shreds at moments too. Reminiscent of soul music from the 60's and 70's, though you can see that Winehouse vibe as well. A lovely portrait of Marsha P Johnson on the album cover too. In line for album of the year for me, I think. Was debating a 10/10... Fav tracks: It Must Change, Scapegoat, Rest,
REVISION 12/12/23. SWITCHED FROM A 9/10 TO A 6/10. JUST RELISTENED AND ALL THE SUDDEN HATE IT WHY? IDK IT FEELS KINDA CHEESY AND BAD
